Eldar - Armorcast Tempest (more or less) Painted
It was a little cooler today than it's been for quite some time, so I spent some more time on the Tempest. Picked out the bone color on the weapons, engines and underside, then laid in the yellow following the plating lines on the main hull.
My buddy Dave suggested that I carry the yellow striping up onto the turret which worked out really well I think. The overhead shot shows it off fairly well. I'm not totally happy with the bone (again), so it's going to get another pass - the translucency really shows up in the pictures more than it does in Real Life(tm) for some reason, but regardless it means it needs another layer.
The old Armorcast vehicles don't have nearly the level of detail which means they paint up crazy quickly! Not sure what's next up - I've painted a mess of tanks so it's probably time to work on some more infantry...

I like the yellow on the turret, good call - I'd take care not to overdue the yellow, wouldn't want it to become the major color.
ReplyDeleteWhen you go over the bone, make sure you dirty up the front guns some.
Impressive garage you have worked up.
Looks good, reminders me of playing Epic all those years ago, I think we had enough of these for the company card in 2nd Ed Epic.
ReplyDeleteLooking great man. Wow you paint fast!
ReplyDelete@Manus: Indeed, going to keep the yellow to a minimum on the guardians, likely just the helmets and maybe cloth here and there. Cheers!
ReplyDelete@Sir Tainly: Totally, I love these old armorcast kits for just that reason!
@17yearoldhobbyist: This one did paint up surprisingly quickly. Maybe 4 hours or so from primer to where it it now. ...Of course it spent three weeks in Simple Green which drags the average time down a bit!
Great looking tempest. I really like the bold yellow/ orange over the blue. I bet your army looks great together.
ReplyDeleteI love old models getting fresh, new overhauls and bong fitted into "modern" armies - well done! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking model.

You've done that old horse justice. Good work.
ReplyDeleteLove, love love the your use of the Tempest. The dappling looks great!
ReplyDeleteCan you go into detail on how you did the yellow? Colors used, etc? I really like your colors here.
ReplyDelete@Mr. E: Sure thing, it was pretty straightforward, just three colors! I started off with a basecoat of Vallejo Hot Orange, which takes a few coats to get a nice even coverage (it tends to be a little streaky over a black primer to start with), then it was given a pass of Vallejo Orange Fire, followed by a pass of Golden Yellow. The orange sort of "shines through" the translucent yellow which gives it a nice warm rich tone.
ReplyDeleteHope that helps!
