Imperial Knight Paladin - Complete!

I'm a big fan of the larger war machines available to the Imperium, Leviathans, Hellebores, and the various Titans - Over the course of my hobby carreer I've owned a number of super heavy vehicles and titans, though for the most part they rarely take to the field. It's hard to justify a 600+ point model in a 1500pt-2000pt game. I think this stems from cutting my teeth on the 6mm systems back in the day, and at the time there were a number war machines that have yet to make their appearance either in the new Epic system or from Forge World. One group in particular I really enjoyed, the Imperial Knights - one-man versions of the mighty Titans, though much smaller and more lightly armed. Back in the Epicast/Armorcast days, there was a prototype knight though I never had the opportunity to purchase one.

I ran across a resin knight analoge on ebay that I had to have as soon as I laid eyes on it. The package arrived and I quickly sorted and washed all the pieces. It came with a number of arm weapon options, though for now I'm just building it out as a Knight Paladin, armed with a closr combat weapon and a battle cannon. I also decided that for storage and weapon swap options I'd magetize the Knight.

I added a little extra cabling here and there, and used a leftover banner for the 'loincloth'. I decided that the Knight would be predominantly red to go along with the rest of the Adeptus Mechanicus. However I also wanted to hearken back to the fluff in adding some quartered 'heraldry' to the model as well.

I still need to go in and finish the banners and scrollwork, as well as add some waterslide transfers, but I'm not 100% sure what I want to add.

All in all a very fun model to build and paint. Eventually I'd like to build two more and do a Knight Household, with another Paladin and a Lord of some variety (either a Knight Errant or Lancer). The spare arms that came in the package means I can create a Knight Errant already, though making a Lancer will require a bit of scratch building.

  1. Wow - that's fan-bloody-tastic, mate! Thanks for sharing!

Dare we ask how much it cost? And how tall is it? It looks easily the height of a warhound, and I can't remember the comparison from my Epic days...

  2. Thanks Drax! I spent a bit more than I should have, no doubt but I'd sold off some models recently and the hobby fund could withstand the hit. It stands just shy of 8" tall to the top of the carapace, so it's several inches shorter than the FW Warhound, and significantly less bulky.

Back in the Epic days the knights were mounted on 25mm bases, and stood just about the size of a 40k-scale guardsman, so it seems like this is just about the right size. Nevertheless once it's settled in among the rest of the models on the shelves, it definitely stands out!

  5. I found it on ebay, listed as a "Knightly Titan for use with 40k" - Obviously the seller needed to be careful about the wording to avoid the GW Banhammer. I've contacted the seller about the possibility of purchasing another pair to do a Knight household, but as yet I have not received any response. Not sure if that means that he's not casting any more of them, or if GW came down on him for it (which would be a shame).

  7. Heh - I've never said that I make sound financial decisions regarding the hobby. Fortunately I'd sold off some other models recently to offset the expense. While I'd LIKE two more, I don't know if I SHOULD buy two more. :)

Nevertheless, it's something that I've always wanted for my 40k Ad-Mech army, and the old Dreamforge Gabriel knights and Epicast prototypes usually go for WAY more when they rarely show up on eBay...

  8. I guess it's something you might have seen, but check out the model I am using for my Titan knight. The website is www.dust.com and it's the Gunther model. You can also just check out the posts on my blog.

    Cheers!

  9. I really like what you've done with the Gunther - that's awesome!

It also made me realize that I completely forgot to model on the chin mounted heavy bolters that the Knight Paladin is supposed to have. Gah!

  10. Wow, I was enamored by the Knight Titans after reading Mechanicum. Most the titans are too big to really use even in Apocalypse but the Knights looks like they would fit perfectly on the tabletop. Good luck adding those heavy bolters.

  11. Wowzers! That fella's gianormous. I really like the metallics on the arms, legs, and back, and the color scheme is nicely unified. I know it's unintentional, but the shield he has strapped to his right arm almost looks like part of a manhole cover!

  16. I'd purchased this one on eBay from a seller called "bladenmaiden" however he hasn't posted any more for sale since late December. I'm not sure if he stopped making them or if GW threw a C&D his way. The more recent version of the Knight came from a guy in Monaco, who has a blog and contact info here: http://hearthguard.over-blog.com

    Good luck!
