40k Genestealer Cult - Rockgrinders complete!

Alternately, "Thank the Emperor, he'll finally stop banging on about the Rockgrinders!" Broke out the sponges and the washes and got the weathering in on the trucks, meaning the second formation of the force is now complete. Victory!

Sponged on Vallejo Charred Brown on various corners here and there, followed by a lighter sponging of Oily Steel. Once that dried the extreme sharp edges got a line highlight of silver and they're good to go! The headlamps got another pass in white to make them a bit brighter and halogen-esque, and the weapons got a bit of copper/gold detailing here and there so the gunmetal wasn't so stark.

The junk in the trunk is actually horribly be-clawed monstrosities ready to hurl dynamite into the ranks of their foes! All in all I really enjoyed painting these up, and I look forward to careening them around the tabletop soon!

Once I got them safely ensconced in their battlefoam trays for storage I figured I'd update the ol' painting chart! A fair few models done so far, but there's still a tidal wave of infantry to work through. Before I start in on The Doting Throng, I am going to take a brief jump back over to the Heresy side and finish up Ahriman and Fellhand though!

  1. Looks great man. The only thing I would like to see on them is muddy splashes around the wheels and arches. Would be suitably fitting i think for a minig vehicle to trawl through mud every day. Really like the rest of the weathering though

  2. Can I suggest some OSL for the lights? The rest of it works well for me. I will have to go back and dig up your Imperial Fist stuff as a guide.

  3. Great work! Maybe the mud on wheels, but great as is. You Sir are indeed a painting machine... I have done one RTB01 marine and converted a Leman Russ to the Cult in the time you did these! Lol

  4. Thinking about what Spih just wrote - I don't think the only thing I've done is stick some Tempestus Scion heads on Cultist bodies.

    btw, loving the rockgrinders, especially the sponge work.

  5. These look so good!
    ...I am strangely enthralled by those stretched blue tarps on the backs of those things...

  6. @NafNaf: Thanks! Aye, I'd given it some thought, but the basing on the infantry is in a pale grey rubble and I didn't think that would end up looking good as dust spatter against the yellow with it being light-on-light.

    @Jakub Furlanetto: Indeed! They're roughly the same footprint as a Taurox (minus the big dozer blade).

    @Rory Priest: I'd dabbled a bit, but couldn't get a convincing look, it's the light-on-light issue with a white light on a yellow hull (and the lights on the dozer blade wouldn't actually shine on anything to OSL up). Cheers!

    @Siph_Horridus: Thanks very much, man!

    @Zzzzzz: Cheers bud!

    @Neverness: Haha! They are my favorite bit of the models too! :)

    Thanks very much for all the kind words, everyone!

  8. Excellent work on those Rockgrinders, mate! I love the vibrant yellow on the vehicles and the distressed skin effects on the crew! Thumbs up! :)

  9. @Col. Hertford: Cheers man! Indeed, I really enjoyed painting 'em up, it's cool to see some civilian vehicles.

    @KrautScientist: Thanks very much! It's been fun to dabble with the dank and dirty effects!

  10. That's some great model - the yellow really came through extremely vibrant.

  11. Your trucks of death are just the right amount of banged up and dirty. I was sizing up the dozer blades the other day for use on a Leman Russ. It's a shame they didn't spice up the captured IG tanks in the rules, but oh well.
