Heresy Era Thousand Sons - Drop Pods painting begins...

I couldn't quite bring myself to apply an exclamation point to this post's title, as drop pods are just not all that exciting. Nevertheless, they form an integral part of the Orbital Assault rite of war that the Khamasiin is based on, so gotta get cracking on 'em!

Having built them in sub assemblies really helped on the painting front so far - definitely makes getting to all the nooks and crannies a piece of cake. Just the red and basic gunmetal laid in so far, but that gets us almost halfway to the finish line already!

  1. Oh boy, I fear for your sanity... I hated doing multiple drop pods (or thats how I remember it now) and you say you are enjoying it? ;) Good progress, loving seeing this force come together - are you going to keep this one?

  2. Drop pods are hellish to paint, but I love the way they look. I think they evoke everything that is 40k. The image of these guys plummeting down from the heavens, halting just before impact, and then disgorging armor clad elite warriors is just so cool!

  3. I feel your pain Joel. For some reason drop pods are the worst models to paint. I never enjoy painting them!

  4. I have never painted one and only heard horror stories about them.

  5. @Siph_Horridus: Haha! I wouldn't say I'm enjoying it per se, but it's definitely easier with the subcomponents! Chances are the Khamasiin will go up on the auction block, but not until way later in the year after I get back from NOVA in September...

    @John Stiening: Indeed! They are such an integral part of the aesthetic, for sure!

    @Greg Hess: Absolutely, there's something about the 5-fold repetitiveness of it that makes painting 'em a chore.

    @Rory Priest: Hah! So far it's been my experience that building them is far more arduous than painting them, and doing three of them at once was an excercise in tedium for sure.

    Cheers folks!

  8. I dunno, I always thought drop pods were kinda neat. Of all the GW vehicles, they make the most sense.

  9. Production line hell. Looking good though.

  10. @#2501: Oh I agree! Having a finished trio will be fun! It's just the building and painting is not as engaging as other vehicles by any stretch of the imagination.

    @Phil Curran: Hah! Indeed!
