Eldar - The last of the army; batch painting begins!

With just a double handful of models left to finish in the Eldar army I figured I'd do my usual batch painting process to get as many of the colors common to all the models done at the same time. At some point in the process I'll have to break them out into discrete groups to finish them off, but the blue, yellow and bone are all going to go on them in one big group.

I'd posted a pic of the models with the initial midnight blue, and this morning before work I got up and knocked out the rest of the blue process. After all the relevant bits were hit with midnight blue, I did three more drybrush passes with ultramarine blue, magic blue and ice blue followed by a guilliman blue wash. Next up will be all the bone color (leather brown > bleached bone > devlan mud > bleached bone), followed by the yellow (hot orange > fiery orange > golden yellow). Once that's in place it'll be detail work aplenty!

So far so good! Definitely on track to have the army done by the end of the week, then up on the auction block it'll go!

  1. And they say red makes things go faster. Pfffft.

  2. Hah! Perhaps they're speeding toward completion so fast the colors are all blueshifted? :)

  3. Good lord... Will you just slow down and act like you're the same as the rest of us?

    Following your progress here just makes me feel like my own 20-odd years in this hobby have taught me none about how to paint efficiently.

  4. @Phil Morris: Heh, it's been an atypically productive couple months!

    @Dai: Haha! This sort out output isn't usual for me I'll admit, but these Eldar ahve been so much fun to paint they're flying off the painting table! As far as it goes, I do try to sit down to paint with a very specific plan in mind - Usually I'll pull out just the colors I want to finish in a given session (for this recent example it's the five colors of blue behind the models) and go to town on the models. Tonight I have about an hour or two of painting time so I'm planing on doing the bone - three paints, four steps, and that reasonable goal keeps me on task until that stage of the process is complete. I find breaking the painting up into discrete chunks of painting time/color does help keep me focused and churning out the minis!

    @Von Speek: I appreciate it!

    Cheers all!

  5. I really do envy you, not only for the speed you paint at (though that contributes) but also for your ability to batch paint well. I've never had the discipline to do that though I'm getting better. Anyhow... Great work, and good advice on breaking it down

  6. @17yearoldhobbyist: Batch painting a bunch of different models like this really helps keep me interested. It's definitely another story when it's 30+ Orks or similar where every model is essentially the same - that can get tedious really quick. Cheers!

  7. You've done a really excellent job on these Mordian. Won't you be sorry to let them go?

  8. @Lead Legion: Thanks man - I'm well pleased with the army overall. The 7th Regiment is my keeper army, these side projects are just for fun and are always intended to get sold. I sort of see them as my quasi-commission projects, I just look at it as finding a client after they're done. :)
