Heresy Era Mechanicum - Vorax Maniple Painted

Well unfortunately Real Life(tm) has been taking up far more of my time than I like, but I did manage to get a little hobby time in over the last few days and knocked out the Vorax maniple I'd ordered ages ago!

I absolutely love the update to the old Crusader pattern robot design FW has done, though the kits proved to be a major pain in the tuchus to assemble - tons of hot water bending for the various cables and ammo feeds, and even with what I thought was gentle manipulation, I still managed to snap one of them (and fixing that was a joy let me tell you).

Same basic paint scheme as the rest of the force - blue power weapons/cables, roman numerals on the right and a little cog-tooth decoration on the left, glossy black eyes and we're good to go! From what I'm reading they're apparently a little underwhelming on the tabletop, but it's Rule of Cool all the way for me so they'll definitely show up in my lists in the future!

  1. Nice work, mate! Mine are still sitting in the basecoat stage on my desktop.

  2. I'm with you on the rule of cool...who cares what they play like when they look so insectoid and sinister!

  3. Nice! I had not seen these models before. Your paint scheme suits them really well. Def agree about the rule of cool. If it looks good then I will use it.

  5. Those are some fiddly-looking bits! But the end result is some creepy bug robots with crazy guns and scary blades! The glossy black eyes are a great touch.

  6. Blarg! Where's my old intro to Psych text book? Those buggy things need to die under it's not inconsiderable weight o_O Nice work, but those don't look like alpha legion to me...

  7. @DaveTaylor: Thanks very much! Can't wait to see 'em done up in your scheme!

    @Phil Morris: Exactly! :D

    @Nafnaf: Thanks! I agree wholeheartedly!

    @Greg Hess: Cheers man! They're my favorite of the re-imaginings thus far, really hoping that FW will continue on and do analogs of the Conqueror, Colossus and Cataphract as well!

    @Joe B: It was definitely a challenging kit to build, but they end up looking pretty sweet! Thanks!

    @Zab: Hah! I can almost hear 'em skitter around on the shelf... Writing up lists and searching out bits for the Alphas at the moment, will be selling off the KSons to fund their purchase (though I do have a few bits and bobs to get started on some basics).

    Cheers everyone!

  9. Crusaders were my fav of the old robots and these certainly do them justice.

    Bravo sir - game-rules be damned! They will rock the table regardless!

  10. Yeah. They are both sinister and sexy. I realise that this is wrong on several levels, but hey, it's just a hobby...

  11. Nice work, and I hear you on the cable snapping. Where possible, I've been switching them out for nuce bendable pewter.
