40k Genestealer Cult - Chitin and Skin!

Quick hit this morning - while I wasn't able to get the whole cult painted up in a day (I must be slowing down in my old age), I did get all the skin tones laid in on the various models over the weekend:

I tried to keep the general color scheme throughout the generations, with the Patriarch and Purestrains in the old-school blue chitin and purple skin, and each successive generation having a lighter and more 'human' skin tone (though keeping the same blue chitin where exposed). So far, so good!

  1. Oh for heavens sake stop it! How do you paint this fast and get anything else done? Like work or say sleep?! :P

  2. Are you going to work up some Armored Limos for them to tool around in? Combined with the SH Genestealers this would make a hell of an army. :)

  3. I echo Rory, how have you done these so fast?! I haven't invested in the box yet but I know I'm going to struggle with my interpretation. Even though my kitbashes should help there are actually more questions I have to ask about my approach to painting these, because I insist on doing a variety of ethnicities in my humans... coupled with the fact I even had pale blue and ochre coloured skin tones [due to the Stealer mutations affecting skin tone] my hybrids will be unique but it does pose poteential obstacles to progress :(

  4. I had hopped you would have picked up this kit. At the same time I knew you'd have almost the entire box painted in the time it took most of us to decide whether or not to order it...remove the plastic wrapping...or type this comment.

Stellar tones already. Can't wait to see this finished!

  5. That's quite impressive for a day's work, I like the look of the early hybrids more with your scheme, the ones with the power pick things.

  6. Greg has a point. ^_^

Happy you stuck with the traditional scheme for these. Looking great so far. THat Patriarch looking large one at the back left seems rather imposing. Does he at least have a gut like the original Patriarch sculpts?

  7. Hey awesome stuff! looking forward to seeing some more color on these boys!

By any chance could you give me the measurements for the different cultists space suit collars in MM? I know there are a couple variations throughout the different generations.

  8. Hells yeah! Bringing back old memories. And those hybrids look like they're straight out of the 1984 DUNE movie!

  9. Jeez you move fast! And they look great too! It's not fair!!

  10. @Rory Priest: Haha! I had a pretty open Sunday so was able to get a few solid hours in at the table. Now it's one or two colors a night until they're done!

@#2501: Not for this particular set, but I have a couple lined up for the second round of cultists I have planned!

@Dave Weston: I'm definitely interested to see your take on 'em man! I like the idea of doing varying ethnicities, should be really cool!

@Greg Hess: Thanks man! Cruising right along with 'em, it's nice to paint something other than power armor for a while!

@Bronislaw Czevak: Cheers man! I'm digging those new aberrant sculpts a lot, tons of character!

@Dai: Hah! I kinda miss the old seated 'Mafia Don' patriarch look as well, the one in the new set is intimidating but doesn't have quite the character. :)

@Matthew Mandzak: Thanks! The 4th generation cultists are ~5mm, while the 1st-3rd generation are all ~8mm. Hope that helps!

@J.D. Brink: For sure! They definitely have that vibe to 'em - part of the reason I really dig 'em. The Spice Must Flow!

@Sheep: Haha! Thanks bud - they're definitely fun to paint, which helps the time fly by on 'em!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!
