GenCon Bound! ...And some more guard.

As of this moment, I am now on vacation! Taking tomorrow off to get everything squared away and packed up for the trip out to Indy - it's going to be an absolute blast! Gonna get in a couple games of Deathwatch and Only War (40k:RPG), some MERCS as well as some Shadowrun (we're going to be starting up a home campaign soon) and I'm going to play some OGRE with one of the guys from Steve Jackson Games. ...Not that the Kickstarter for it has arrived yet. The one that funded in May of 2012.

I did spend a little time working on the Rapier, and laid down the base fatigues and armor plate colors. I'd originally thought I'd do the armor plates on the Rapier and Thudd Gun in grey like the flak armor on the guard, but in retrospect I'm thinking they'd look better in the vehicle black and red. Thoughts?

If you're going to be in Indy for GenCon and want to meet up for a pint, drop me an email and we'll figure something out!

  1. I agree that they'd look better in black and red. Have fun at GenCon! I myself am looking forward to games day UK in September.

  2. By the way, isn't the rapier a Horus Heresy space marine vehicle?

  3. Nah IG can take them too. How's the Rapier hold up in games?? Looks cool btw, I quite like the blue :)

  4. @17yearoldhobbyist: That's what I'm leaning towards as well. The rapier was released for both the marines and the guard at roughly the same time back in 1st/2nd edition (along with the thudd gun and the mole mortar, but then all three of them sort of disappeared until FW started making them again. They've done the thudd gun (quad launcher) as well, so I'm really hoping to see a mole mortar from them at some point as well!

@The Grim Darkness: It works pretty well, especially for the points reduction in the recent FW update! I treat it mostly as an adjunct heavy weapons team and put it in amongst a guard platoon to protect it from fire and provide them with some extra anti-vehicle punch.

  5. Oh! That's cool! I don't really use FW rules, just the models! If I ever get around to a DKOK army, I'll probably use the rules for them though

  6. Death Krieg Core of Death of Core.... Whatever. Those grumpy gas-mask fellows have a mole mortar mini.

I think If you add some red to this scheme it will look fine. Better to match your other artillery (Medusa) scheme.

  7. @Dai: Holy crap! How on earth did I miss that? It's a rather different take on it, being man portable rather than a separate emplacement, but very cool. Now if they only made it in a non-DKoK format...

  8. Looks like a challenge for your conversion abilities, M7.

Have a good time at thingycon. Especially interested in how the 40Krpg goes. Almost tempted to pick the books up just to cross reference with my guard fluff....
